Here’s one of those times I’m willing to divulge some of my game collecting secrets: and that secret is Goodwill Auctions. To be honest, it isn’t actually that fantastic of a resource, as most of the users seem willing to pay above eBay prices for some unknown reason. Maybe they just really like charity?
Anyway, as long as you avoid the Nintendo categories you can do alright, since nobody seems to care about collecting for Sony or Sega. I was relatively pleased when I was able to scoop up this lot for $75 recently, featuring boxed copies of Streets of Rage 3 (eBay price: $50-$60) and Phelios ($30-$40).
Ok, so there’s the auction picture. Notice anything strange? I sure didn’t, not until the games arrived today:
If you look at that original auction picture, you can definitely see the stains existed prior to shipment, and should’ve probably been mentioned! I’ve issued a support ticket with Goodwill. Though their auctions are typically “as-is,” their return policy clearly states “the only exception is if there is a substantial discrepancy or distortion in the item description.”
I’m going to say a bunch of green ooze qualifies as a “substantial discrepancy.” Let’s hope they agree.
